On November 1, 2015, Diamond Sports hosted a Senior Night event for current Diamond Sports seniors and a select group of juniors and sophomores. Giving our players an opportunity to play at the next level is something we place a huge emphasis on at Diamond Sports. Giving college coaches in the Pacific Northwest an opportunity to see an abundance of local talent in one area was something we really wanted to take advantage of. We did not charge the players to attend as we felt it was our responsibility to provide them with this opportunity. We did not expect college coaches to do anything but to simply watch and observe the players. Even at prospect camps that colleges host, there are very few opportunities for coaches to simply relax and watch players so we wanted to provide them with that opportunity.
For our first year placing an emphasis on this event we had a fairly decent turnout for college coaches. The schools that were in attendance were Seattle University, Gonzaga University, University of Puget Sound, Tacoma Community College, Lower Columbia College, Pierce College, Bellevue College, and Linn Benton Community College. Since the event we have had college coaches reach out to numerous players to set up visits and workouts. We have even had some players receive scholarship offers.
We are planning to host a similar event in January or February with our target audience being all of the community colleges in the North West Athletic Conference (NWAC) and the event will include only 2016 graduates. Our goal is to have each player signed or committed to play at the next level by the time the summer baseball season has started so players can play baseball without worry about where they will be playing college baseball.
